Sony will pay $7.85M in PlayStation Store credits as part of the Game Voucher Settlement

If you’re a PlayStation customer living in the US, you may be eligible to claim part of the upcoming $7.85 million compensation payment. The lawsuit focuses on allegations that Sony “unlawfully eliminated competition and dominated the market [its] digital games” by no longer selling game-specific vouchers that allow PlayStation owners to purchase digital games from various online stores.
The class action case Caccuri v. Sony Interactive Entertainment alleges that Sony’s actions caused “consumers to pay more for certain digital games than they would have paid in the PlayStation Store.” It alleges that this action is a violation of antitrust laws, as it forces PlayStation customers to buy from one store at an inflated price.
Simply put, the lawsuit alleges that Sony restricted the sale of digital games in other markets, linking customers to its PlayStation store. Some of these games include PlayStation exclusive titlessuch as The Last of Us, and third-party games such as Mass Effect Trilogy and Resident Evil 4.
The case was first settled in 2024, but the deal was rejected twice during the approval process — most recently in July 2025 (PDF), when the presiding judge called the proposed plan “[did] does not provide for a limited recovery or a range of possible recoveries for class members.” The approval process was restarted in April.
Sony denied that it did any wrongdoing or that members of the settlement class were harmed by its actions, and the court did not rule that the company violated any laws. Apart from this, the court has approved the payment of compensation of $7.85 million, subject to hearing the final approval of the court.
The payment website is now live. A hearing is scheduled for October 15, and is intended to confirm the settlement amount, award up to 25% of attorneys’ fees and create a plan to distribute the rest of the money to eligible class members.
If you meet all the criteria to be part of the Sony PlayStation game voucher agreement, you automatically become a class member in this case and will be able to collect a portion of the settlement — added directly to your PlayStation Network account balance — sometime after the final consent hearing.
Gamers who have closed their PlayStation Network accounts can request a compensation payment by sending the relevant purchase information to the email address info@PSNDigitalGamesSettlement.com. Customers with closed accounts will receive cash payments instead of PSN account authorization.
You can opt out of paying compensation if you would like to retain your right to sue Sony separately regarding the game voucher sales practices. If you do not send a written request to the court to withdraw or object to the settlement before July 2nd, you will remain part of the settlement phase.
Who can be part of the Sony PlayStation settlement?
Not all PlayStation owners are automatically eligible. The money is reserved for those who purchased a digital game through the PlayStation Store during the period after Sony stopped selling game-specific vouchers on other online storefronts.
To join, you must meet the following qualifications:
- Be a resident of the US or its territories.
- You purchased one eligible digital game (PDF) through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019 and Dec. 31, 2023.
Affected persons are part of the automatic payment class and will receive their compensation through the wallet of the PlayStation Network account, subject to the approval of the final case, the date and time may change. Any updates will be posted on the payment website.
How much will Sony PlayStation compensation pay?
It is not yet clear how much each member of the payment category will receive, although we know that those involved will automatically receive compensation in the form of PlayStation account funds.
Up to a quarter of the $7.85 million settlement will be used to cover attorneys’ fees, taxes and other administrative costs. The balance of the settlement will be distributed equally to all members of the settlement class. Settlement class members will likely see a few dollars added to their PlayStation accounts once funds are fully disbursed.
