Episode eight Daredevil: Born Again It ended season 2 on Tuesday Disney Plusgiving us one of Marvel’s deadliest TV episodes to date. If you thought Kingpin/Fisk couldn’t be forgotten anymore, you thought wrong.
Tuesday’s season finale closed while opening up an exciting future for the series and the MCU. Appearing as a violent, politically charged affair that mirrors real-world events, the entire eight-episode series has turned nearly everyone into a fighter of some sort. It also reintroduces plenty of familiar faces (and voices) like Jessica Jones, Brett Mahoney and others.
Throughout the show, Matt leaned on his faith, questioned his conscience, and examined morality and justice through conversations with Karen, Jessica or Dex. Towards the end, Daredevil is nursing a gunshot wound to his leg, Karen is deep in her case, Jessica wants to help and Fisk is more desperate than ever.
Let’s dive into the big moments from the finale and how these threads might connect to season 3 and the larger MCU.
Warning: Nothing but spoilers ahead for Daredevil: Born Againso avoid reading if you haven’t watched all the episodes. There were no post-credits or mid-credits scenes to play, but there was a scene worthy of this meme.
Luke Cage!
Did you almost shout, “Merry Christmas!” again? It doesn’t matter what word is out, you need a lesson in Netflix’s live-action Marvel shows to get where it’s going. Luke Cage is on the scene, and it’s exciting.
Jessica and Luke had a brief romantic relationship that featured episodes of Jessica Jones and The Guardians, but nothing in the Netflix series indicates that they were expecting a daughter. We meet Danielle for the first time in this season of Daredevil: Born Again, and it’s clear that she hasn’t seen her father in a long time.
Because there was a short conversation in episode 7 between Charles and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) that brought up the old explosion, where Charles said that he was the only one who could connect with her. he. He is Luke (played by Mike Colter). All he – and we – learned in the previous episode was that he was working overseas.
When we last saw him, he had taken over the Paradise nightclub and was named Harlem’s protector and manager. But here in his meeting with Jessica and her daughter, he says, “The work was different there.” It sounds like he did something for the CIA, or at least worked under Charles.
Luke Cage in Marvel’s original series on Netflix.
In the comics, Luke ran for mayor and started cleaning up the town after Fisk took over. That storyline is also tied to the anti-surveillance laws Fisk has put in place, making Luke Cage’s first on-screen appearance in tonight’s finale a key setup for a season 3 episode that could bring the Guardians — and Angel del Toro’s White Tiger — together.
We know Colter went viral after photos of him, Ritter and Finn Jones (who plays Danny Rand in Iron Fist and The Defenders) were posted online, fueling speculation that a Defenders reunion is coming. And because he also has a history with the Avengers in the comics, we might get a little backstory on where he’s been, who he’s been with (maybe Shang-Chi or the New Avenger?) or where the MCU could be going. What we do know, is that the Alias probe may have been updated and is working.
Exit, Sheila entered
Some fans predicted this would happen, and lo and behold, it has. Sheila is now in charge after Fisk’s public murder, an endless crime spree and a beach bum-style exile.
Sheila stood out at times when it came to upholding integrity, choosing to be one of Fisk’s lackeys to stay alive, so we’ll see how strong of a leader she is going forward. This is important because actress Zabryna Guevara has confirmed that her character is indeed in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In the trailer, he was seen giving Spidey the key to the city.
Welcome to the MCU, Sheila. Don’t betray someone like you did to Commissioner Gallo.
Dex, the CIA and the MCU
There is a short shot of Charles on the plane, with Dex/Bullseye sitting next to him. Dex seemed to be looking for a redemption arc as the Born Again episodes closed, but now it looks like he’s been hired to work with Charles and the CIA. Remember when Charles got someone important on the phone back in episode 1? That someone was Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the director of the CIA in the MCU and the secret leader of the Thunderbolts.
In the comics, Bullseye has a relationship with the Thunderbolts (aka the New Avengers) or whatever you want to call them, and is still involved in criminal activities. There is also a comic book in which he runs with the superhero team the Avengers. There’s no telling where his story will go yet, but don’t be surprised if Dex/Bullseye appears in another Marvel movie before we see him on the TV show again.
Will Dex become a CIA officer?
Daredevil’s arrest
It didn’t take long for Daredevil’s actions to catch up with him after Matt revealed himself to be the Red Devil in court, and his arrest proved it. In his jail cell, he smiled as the episode ended, showing he’s not worried about what’s next, so fans shouldn’t, either. There’s not much to give away here, but we’ll have to wait for season 3 (or the May 12 TV special of The Punisher) to see what happens when Daredevil is the defendant. Until then, let the speculation begin.
