Israel’s president says “it’s about time everyone tells Iran, ‘Guys, we’re tired,'” as he lays out the terms of the war.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog said on Wednesday that Israel and the US had “no choice” but to “take action” and hit Iran.

He also pointed out that Israel has intelligence showing that Iran wants to increase its long-range missiles from 2,000 to 20,000.

“If you know that they have invested all their nation’s resources and money to create trouble in the Middle East as you try to create peace with Islamic countries,” said Herzog. “If you know they have another secret bomb emergency plan, you should take action.”

In an interview with Tony Dokoupil of CBS Evening News, Herzog said there are concerns that Iran will expand its arsenal, and that the US and Israel believe that Iran has “another new secret program to accelerate” the development of a nuclear weapon.

Neither the US nor Israel have provided evidence to support their claims that Iran is planning to build a nuclear weapon. White House special envoy Steve Witkoff said on Monday, before the strikes, that the Iranian negotiators mentioned during the negotiations that they had enough uranium to make 11 nuclear bombs.

Iran has long said its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran now on their fifth day and not seeing an end to the war, Herzog said that Israel is not asking for an invasion of the country.

“Let me be clear, I’m not calling any boots on the ground. I’m not asking any American or anyone else,” said Herzog.

Asked whether it was President Trump or Israeli leaders who finally made the decision to attack, Herzog said “Israel does not say anything to President Trump, and Israel does not drag America into war, God forbid.”

“This decision by Trump (Trump) is without a clear consideration and decision-making process,” Herzog said, adding that Israel “became a factor because Israel is a friend.”

Regime change is “not really” the goal of the war, Herzog said, but rather what he described as “Middle East change,” which he described as crippling Iran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon and prevent it from becoming a state sponsor of terrorism around the world — including the support it provides to militant groups that act as its proxies: the Gaza-based Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based Hamas, the Lebanon-based Hamas, Lebanon

“It’s time for everyone to tell Iran, ‘Guys, we’re fed up, this has to change,'” Herzog said. “One way or another, if it’s going to lead to regime change, so much the better.”

Herzog later said that Israel is not asking other Gulf nations to enter the war.

“Sometimes there is nothing else you can do, if you are beaten you have to fight,” said Herzog.

As for whether he’s worried there’s no clear end to the war, Herzog said “it’s always something to think about.”

Pressed on a timeline for ending the war, Herzog replied, “It takes time, because these things take time, but if you look at it from a bird’s eye view, and the data, you see, there is a steady decline in the power of the Iranian regime.”

Mr. Trump, if asked in a phone interview with CBS News on Saturday night whether there is anyone in Iran who would like to see him lead the country after the incident. The assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali KhameneiMr. Trump replied, “Yes, I think so. There are some very good ones.”

Herzog, however, was mum about Israel having such a list, saying only that “it is not our job to decide who can lead Iran.”

He called the cooperation between the US and Israel in the war “very close, very close,” but declined to provide details on how that cooperation was playing out.

Herzog also would not comment on whether Israeli officials are concerned that the US will continue its role in the war if its support for the US decreases, admitting that he understands that “it is not a popular war in America.”

A CBS News poll released on Tuesday found that 62% of Americans do not believe the White House has clearly defined its intentions for military action against Iran.

“I understand that it’s not a popular war in America, because, you know, usually, people don’t know the issues of war, and they compare it to past wars and other wars,” Herzog said. “This is a unique battle.”
