Bed Bath & Beyond is back with a bonus: Old coupons will be honored

Bed Bath & Beyond is looking to stage a comeback as the decades-old company reopens stores in partnership with The Dish Store in 22 cities, including two in Southern California.
To the delight of diehards and coupon collectors, for a limited time new stores will accept the chain’s green and white coupons, no matter how old they are.
Customers can use their expired coupons until July 13. The company also has a contest for the oldest coupon, with a prize of $100,000 worth of home repairs.
“For decades, our customers have treasured these coupons,” said President of Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. Amy Sullivan in a statement Monday. “They put them in bags, filing cabinets, cookbooks and memory boxes because they believe they will be useful one day. We think they were right.”
Bed Bath & Beyond, which sells home goods including towels and kitchen gadgets, filed for bankruptcy in 2023 and closed all of its locations. After its bankruptcy, Bed Bath & Beyond was purchased by Overstock.com, which was renamed Beyond, Inc.
The company announced the first phase of its brick-and-mortar reopening last week. In addition to stores in New York, Colorado, Illinois and other states, two California locations will open in the coming weeks in Costa Mesa and Century City in Los Angeles.
A few years ago, social media users complained that they couldn’t use their expired Bed Bath & Beyond coupons.
“I got my entire bed and bath without coupons today,” said one Reddit user earlier this year. “It’s a shame I never used them.”
One Reddit user said they found a bunch of expired coupons over the past two years. “I know I should be getting them out right now, but it was fun collecting them,” they wrote.
In 2025, the executive chairman of Beyond, Inc. Marcus Lemonis vowed never to open stores in California again because of the “over-regulated, expensive” business environment. He ruled that no retail stores are coming in the province in a statement sent to X last August.
However, less than a year later, the company announced 12 planned stores in the Golden State, including five in Southern California. The new stores, called Bed Bath & Beyond + The Container Store, will offer home organization products as well as bed sheets, pillows and more.
Gov. Gavin Newsom welcomed the salesman back into government.
“As a developing economy growing faster than any other developed country, California always reaches out with an open hand — not a closed fist,” he wrote in X in April.
The Container Store filed for bankruptcy in 2024 and emerged from it in early 2025. Bed Bath & Beyond acquired The Container Store in April for about $150 million in stock and convertible notes, part of the company’s bid to come back from bankruptcy.
“Our customers don’t think about their homes in categories,” Lemonis said in a statement. “By bringing Bed Bath & Beyond and The Container Store together, we’re creating a place where customers can shop for products, organize their spaces, design custom solutions and access services under one roof.”
